Biography
Clara Brea & Son Of Chi is the collaboration between the Madrid sound artist Clara Brea and Hanyo van Oosterom, the Rotterdam musician who founded the ambient collective CHI in 1983 and has recorded as Son Of Chi at the Chi Factory Studios ever since. They met at the end of 2019, at a dinner arranged before Hanyo's concert at the Avalovara Listening Club in Madrid, and decided on the spot to exchange recordings and work together.
Out of that exchange, made at a distance through the pandemic lockdowns, came The Wetland Remixes (Astral Industries, April 2022): Son Of Chi reworks Clara's Wetland Project, field recordings from the Ebro Delta, with his own recordings from the Kallikatsou wetlands on the Greek island of Patmos and layers of bass, percussion, guitars, oud, piano, Hammond organ, flutes and bells. Water, birds and sand underfoot, woven with Chi's synthesizers and Clara's strings, on a double gatefold vinyl.
The two played together at MOSTRA Barcelona 2023, the festival's second edition, from 6 to 9 April, where Clara Brea also played solo and Son Of Chi DJed alongside Arthur Flink. The collaboration goes on: in January 2026 Chi Factory released Growing Forests In The City, Son Of Chi's remixes of Clara Brea's improvisations with the collective Menhir, produced at his studios between 2023 and 2025.
