Possible routes and alternatives in the Barcelona music scene

    Lynk&Co · Barcelona

One of the main axes of Mostra is our local scene, so we invite you to get closer to the people who articulate the music scene of our city and who, in addition, are paving the way for possible alternatives to those already established in Barcelona in different areas. The aim of this roundtable is to value all these alternatives and talk about models that go beyond the established, with reference to the personal trajectory of each participant and the projects they represent. This group of speakers is made from agents of change in the city.

Insights into gender equality and music

    Lynk&Co · Barcelona

Presentation of MIM's second gender study in the Spanish music industry. During 2023, Mostra carried out a self-critique and implemented a transversal gender perspective that goes well beyond the dancefloor. There are many associations, collectives and entities that work in the music scene that contribute to create a fairer and more egalitarian ecosystem. Today, we sit down with Carmen Zapata, president of MIM, and Helena Bricio, project coordinator of MIM, to learn about the second gender study driven by Asociación MIM, which analyzes the gender gap in the music industry in Spain. MIM has conducted an open study to better understand this issue, offering a realistic view of the industry from a gender perspective in the post-COVID era. The aim of this study is to shed light on the challenges faced by professional women in the music industry in Spain and seek positive, lasting change.

Exploring the intersection of sound, art and nature

    Lynk&Co · Barcelona

The focus of the discussion will be on how nature has influenced Grand River's new audio installation and how nature intersects with Arquea Colectivo's artistic practices, combining sound creation, visual art and biology. Aimée Portioli is a Berlin-based Dutch-Italian composer and sound designer who records and performs as Grand River. She makes experimental electronic music with rich emotional colors. Her work, influenced by minimalism and ambient music, is atmospheric yet rhythmically complex, incorporating a wide range of contemporary compositional and production techniques. Aimée will be playing at Mostra on Friday 7th April at 6pm in Hangar, where she will be presenting “Tuning The Wind”, a 4DSOUND-concert where she recorded different types of wind, musical layers and pitches, and ultimately brought them together in a swirling composition. On the other hand, we are delighted to have Patricia Usero (Puntalaberinto) and Marzia Matarese, that work together under the name of Arquea Colectivo. They are an audiovisual research collective established at the intersections between sound creation, visual art and biology. Marzia (in charge of the visual part) and Patricia (in charge of the sound via modular machinery) make beautiful collaborations with fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms that participate in the creation process. Patricia will be playing at Hangar also this Friday 7th April at 7pm, after Grand River's 4Dsound concert.
